'Song Etude' is Kristian's first solo guitar offering, following several releases with his bands. This elaborate track was recorded after hours on the back of a recording session by the trio Number Junky.

'Song Etude' is a through-composed solo piece for archtop guitar formed of seven sections and performed by the composer himself. The piece journeys a subtle but exciting exploration of juxtaposing metric layers that ebbs and flows. The virtuosity of the performance is evident as Kristian shows a less known side to his playing as a solo guitarist, as he juggles extensive rhythmic counterpoint.

Song Etude was composed as part of Kristian’s doctoral research. While this may sound dry, Josh Underhill from Dingo Jazz Magazine (AUS) assures us that Kristian’s music created as part of his research is: “exciting, satisfying and digestible”. Song Etude is also groovy: "I think it shares some aesthetic similarities with xylophone music of Southern Ugandan music", says Kristian. Nevertheless, it is artistically permeated by Kristian’s own distinct method towards exploring rhythm and meter in composition.
